Sichuan Mahjong · 四川麻将

Learn to play 川麻

If you have ever sat down at a mahjong table in China and quietly hoped nobody would ask you to play — this site is for you. It teaches Sichuan mahjong 四川麻将 in English, from the first tile to the final score, with a real engine underneath that scores your hands exactly the way a table would.

Why Sichuan mahjong, and why it is not what you have seen

Most English-language mahjong material covers the Cantonese or Japanese games. Sichuan mahjong stripped all of that away and ended up with something faster and stranger:

It hasIt does not have
Only 108 tiles — three suits, nothing elseNo winds, no dragons, no flowers
A mandatory missing suit you must throw away 定缺No chow — you can never claim a discard to make a run
Battle to the end: up to three winners per round 血战到底No stopping when the first player wins
Penalties for stalling: ready check, flower pig, tax refundNo safe, patient way to sit out a round

The result is a much cleaner test of skill: with no honours to hide behind, essentially the whole game is about shape efficiency — how fast you turn 13 random tiles into a winning hand. That also makes it unusually learnable, which is the point of this site.

What this site is, and is not

Everything here is a static web page — no signup, no ads, no server, no account, and nothing to install. The coaching and scoring come from a deterministic rules engine, not from a language model guessing. The site documents one clearly specified ruleset so that the lessons, the table and the calculator can never disagree with each other — see Scoring for how the values were chosen and how local table rules differ.
